Spinal 2 Sport: the pioneering legacy of Sir Ludwig Guttmann
Some of the boxes for cataloguing and conservation
Spinal 2 Sport project
By Laura Cotton
Continuing the work of the Mandeville Legacy project, the Centre for Buckinghamshire Studies in partnership with the National Paralympic Heritage Trust was successful in being awarded over £175,000 from the Wellcome Trust's Research Resources Grant Scheme to undertake cataloguing and conservation on three hugely important collections. The medical records of the National Spinal Injuries Centre, along with the sporting records from the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation and WheelPower will be worked on as part of this two-year project.
The funding will pay for three members of staff to undertake the cataloguing and conservation work, with support from the existing team at the Centre for Buckinghamshire Studies. As we work through and learn more about the fascinating collections that are the subject of the project, we will write more here about what we're finding and where this is taking us.
